The Zombie Firefly's Secret
Luna was a firefly who never stopped glowing. At night, when all her friends dimmed their lights to sleep, Luna sparkled like a tiny golden star.
"You're such a zombie firefly!" teased her friend Flicker. "You never sleep!" But Luna just smiled. She loved staying awake to watch the magical world of night.
One evening, Luna floated toward Mrs. Garcia's garden, following the sweet scent of papaya. The ripe papaya fruits glowed softly in the moonlight, smelling like sunshine and dreams.
Suddenly, Luna heard a loud snort. A gentle bull named Barnaby stood by the fence, his big brown eyes sad. "I'm too big to fit through the gate," he mooed softly. "And that papaya looks so delicious."
Luna had an idea! She zipped over to the garden pond where a lonely goldfish named Goldie swam in circles. "Goldie! Your friend Cat is missing you!"
Goldie leaped joyfully. "Mittens the cat? She comes every day!" The goldfish splashed water droplets that sparkled like diamonds.
The splashing woke Mittens, who had been napping on a garden bench. The orange cat stretched and noticed Barnaby's sad face. "Why is the bull sad?" she asked.
Luna explained, and together they hatched a plan. Mittens squeezed through the fence and rolled the biggest, ripest papaya to Barnaby. The bull's eyes lit up as he took a bite. "It's perfect!"
"But wait," Luna said, flying closer. "Why was Goldie swimming alone?"
Mittens purred. "The garden owner put a net over the pond. Goldie can't jump out to visit me anymore."
Barnaby used his strong horns to carefully lift the net's edge. "There!" he said proudly.
Goldie swam to the surface and leaped into Mittens' paws. The cat purred as her fishy friend nuzzled her whiskers.
Luna watched her new friends celebrate under the papaya tree. Her zombie light had brought them together! She learned that being different wasn't bad — it was her special gift.
From that night on, Luna, Barnaby, Goldie, and Mittens shared papaya feasts every midnight. And Luna never felt lonely again, even when she was the only firefly still glowing at dawn.
