The Zombie Firefly's Glow
Lily pushed aside the palm fronds and gasped. Hidden in her backyard was a glowing pool she'd never seen before. The water shimmered like liquid stars.
Something green floated on the surface. Not a leaf. It moved!
"I'm a zombie firefly," the tiny creature sighed, its light flickering weakly. "I lost my glow."
Lily knelt beside the pool. The firefly looked so sad, its green body barely twinkling.
Suddenly, a sleek fox appeared from behind the orange tree. "I can help!" said the fox. "My name is Rusty."
Rusty explained that magical pools like this one could restore lost magic—but only with true friendship. "You need to share something special with the firefly."
Lily thought hard. What did she have to give?
"My orange!" she cried, pulling the fruit from her pocket. "It's sweet and bright like sunshine."
Rusty nodded. "Perfect. But you must share it together."
Lily broke the orange in half. She gave one piece to the zombie firefly, who nibbled it happily. Rusty and Lily shared the other half, juice dripping down their chins, making them giggle.
As they laughed, something magical happened. The pool began to glow brighter. The firefly's light grew stronger and stronger until it shone like a tiny moon.
"I'm not a zombie anymore!" the firefly cheered, zooming around them in joyful loops. "I'm Finnegan, and I'm your friend forever!"
From that night on, every evening at twilight, Finnegan would dance above Lily's window, his light casting magical shadows across her room. And sometimes, just sometimes, Rusty the fox would appear beneath the palm tree, and together they'd share another orange by the glowing pool.
Lily learned that magic isn't about fancy spells. Magic is sharing, friendship, and kindness. And that, she discovered, is the brightest glow of all.
