The Zombie Fireflies of Padel Court

Lily, Max, and Chewy loved playing padel at the old court near Grandpa's farm. The ball went *thwack-bounce* against the walls as they laughed in the golden sunset.

Suddenly, dark clouds gathered. *CRACK!* Lightning flashed across the sky like jagged silver ribbons.

"Look!" whispered Lily, pointing.

In the grass near the court, tiny green lights flickered. Zombie fireflies!

"Grandpa said these went extinct fifty years ago," Max breathed. "They're back from the dead like... like magic!"

The zombie fireflies danced toward the barn. Rain began to fall—*swimming* through the warm summer air, big fat drops that felt like tiny kisses on their noses.

"Moo!" came a sad sound from behind the barn.

The three friends followed the glowing fireflies around back. A baby bull calf was stuck in the mud, frightened by the storm.

"Don't worry, little friend," Lily soothed. "We'll help you."

Working together, they dug away the mud while the zombie fireflies hovered like tiny green lanterns, lighting their way. The calf scrambled free, nuzzling Max's grateful hand.

Suddenly, the rain stopped. A rainbow arched across the sky, glowing in colors that matched the fireflies' glow. The calf's mama appeared, licking her baby's forehead.

"The zombie fireflies brought us here," Chewy said wonderingly. "They weren't extinct. They were just... waiting. Waiting to help someone who needed them."

Grandpa found them later, drying off inside with mugs of hot cocoa.

"Zombie fireflies!" he exclaimed. "I haven't seen those since I was your age. They only appear when magic is needed—when friendship and courage bring something lost back to life."

That night, Lily dreamed of glowing wings and bull calves and lightning that unlocked secrets. Sometimes, she thought, the most amazing things aren't gone forever. They're just... waiting for the right moment to return.

The zombie fireflies had brought more than light back. They had brought magic back to the padel court, and wonder back to three friends who would never forget the summer lightning lit up the night.
