The Zombie Dance Party
Lily sat on her front porch, tapping away on her iPhone. Her brown hair curled around her face as she played her favorite game for the hundredth time.
"Hey! Want to play?" a voice called out.
Lily looked up. Three kids stood on the sidewalk — Maya with her bright red hair in pigtails, twins Sam and Sophie with matching curly hair.
"What are you playing?" Lily asked, putting down her iPhone.
"Zombie Tag!" Maya grinned. "But not scary zombies. Fun zombies! We do this silly dance and make funny sounds, and if we tag you, you become a zombie too!"
Lily hesitated. She wasn't good at running around. She usually stayed inside with her games.
"Come on!" Sam waved. "It's magical!"
Something about his smile made Lily say yes. She jumped off the porch and started running.
The game was amazing. Maya did a wobbly zombie dance, her red hair flying everywhere. The twins made silly zombie noises — "BRAINS... but like, pretty please with sprinkles on top!" They all laughed so hard their sides hurt.
When Maya tagged Lily, something wonderful happened. Lily didn't just become a zombie — she felt different. Braver. Happier. Her hair seemed to sparkle in the sunlight as she zombie-danced across the grass.
"You're the best zombie ever!" Sophie cheered.
They played until the sun began to set, their hair messy and their faces flushed with joy. For the first time, Lily's iPhone stayed forgotten in her pocket.
"Same time tomorrow?" Maya asked.
"Yes!" Lily said without hesitation.
That night, Lily realized something important: Real adventures with real friends were better than any game on her phone. And sometimes, the most magical things happen when you put down your screen and start running toward new friendships.
