The Zombie Cat's Secret

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. It was full of mysterious treasures, but today she found something extraordinary — a fluffy orange cat walking stiffly, with its eyes closed!

"Oh no!" Lily gasped. "It's a zombie cat!"

The cat stumbled toward her, making soft rumbling sounds. Lily held up her iPhone to record the strange creature, but her hands trembled. What if the zombie cat was hungry for brains?

The cat bumped into her leg and purred loudly. Its eyes fluttered open, revealing bright green orbs full of wonder, not scariness.

"I'm not a zombie," the cat seemed to say with a gentle meow. "I'm just practicing for the talent show!"

Lily giggled. "You're dancing?"

The cat nodded and did a stiff little wiggle that looked exactly like robot dancing! Lily's iPhone captured the magical moment.

"I'm Midnight," whispered a voice. Lily looked around — no one else was there. Then she realized the cat was somehow speaking into her mind! But not like a zombie... like a friend.

"I have magic powers," Midnight explained. "But I'm shy. I pretend to be a zombie so people leave me alone."

Lily understood immediately. Sometimes she felt shy too, especially at her new school. "You don't have to pretend with me," she said, scratching behind the cat's ears. "We can be friends."

Midnight purred so loudly that the attic floorboards seemed to vibrate. The cat showed Lily something amazing — when she looked through her iPhone screen at the cat, she could see shimmering golden sparks dancing around Midnight's fur.

"Real magic," Lily breathed.

They practiced the cat's "zombie dance" together, Lily filming everything. That night, Lily showed the video to her grandmother.

"Midnight has visited generations of children in our family," her grandmother smiled. "The magic chooses those who need it most."

Lily hugged the cat, who wasn't a zombie at all, but a magical friend who had found her. Sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the most wonderful surprises — especially when you give friendship a chance.
