The Zombie Cat's Midnight Pool Party
Lily couldn't sleep. The moon was too bright, too magical, too full of secrets. At midnight, she heard a splash.
She crept to the backyard, her bare feet whispering across the grass. There, shimmering in the moonlight, was the family pool. But something strange was floating there.
It was Mittens, her cat! But Mittens wasn't moving like a cat. She was floating on her back, paws stiff in the air, moving in slow, jerky motions like a silly robot.
"Mittens?" Lily whispered.
The cat rolled upright and meowed—but it came out like "MRRR-ZOMBIE." Then Lily saw it: the magical blue glow beneath the water. Someone had dropped her iPhone in the pool, and it was making the water glow with enchanted light!
Suddenly, the pool began to bubble. Not with hot water, but with MAGIC. Fish made of starlight swam around Mittens. The zombie cat was actually a MAGIC cat now!
"Want to play?" Lily asked, dipping her toes in.
Mittens splashed—ZOMBIE SPLASH!—and suddenly Lily could breathe underwater. She jumped in, and they played chase with the starfish until dawn.
When morning came, the iPhone was gone (magic doesn't stay in boring old phones), and Mittens was just a regular cat again. But sometimes, on full moon nights, Lily still sees that zombie cat floating in the pool, waiting for another midnight adventure.
Some magic only comes out when you're brave enough to look for it.
