The Zombie Bull's Secret

zombiebullfriend

Mia was the only kid brave enough to visit old Farmer McGregor's barn on Halloween night. She'd heard the stories about the "zombie bull" - a creature that shuffled slowly through the fields at midnight, groaning like the living dead.

But Mia loved mysteries.

With her flashlight glowing, she crept toward the barn. Through the wooden cracks, she saw HIM - a massive brown bull moving in slow, jerky motions, head hanging low. Just like the stories said.

"Hello?" she whispered, stepping inside.

The bull froze. His big brown eyes rolled toward her, and he let out the softest, saddest sound: "Moooooo?"

But it wasn't a scary moan. It was a lonely sound.

Mia stepped closer. "You're not a zombie at all, are you?"

The bull shook his head slowly. Something was tangled around his horns - an old, rusted metal ring from a forgotten piece of farm equipment. It pulled his head down, making him move strangely. No wonder everyone thought he was a monster!

"Don't worry," Mia said. "I'll help."

She scrambled onto a hay bale and reached up. The bull stayed perfectly still, his warm breath puffing against her cheek like a cozy blanket. With all her strength, she wiggled the metal ring free. CLUNK - it fell to the floor.

The bull lifted his head for the first time in years. He pranced! He danced! He nuzzled Mia with a velvety nose that felt like sunshine.

From that night on, Mia visited her new friend every day. And on Halloween? They dressed up together - Mia as a cowgirl, and Barnaby (that was his name) wearing a silly hat with flowers. The whole town came to watch the "zombie bull" who wasn't a zombie at all.

He was just a friend who needed help finding his way back to himself.

And sometimes, Mia discovered, the scariest stories hide the kindest hearts.
