The Zombie Bear's Orange Gift
Lily's cat, Mittens, always knew where the magic was hiding.
One rainy afternoon, Mittens led Lily to the old oak tree in their backyard. Buried beneath fallen leaves lay a thick, mysterious cable that seemed to shimmer with golden light. When Lily touched it, the cable hummed like a gentle song.
"Follow me!" Mittens meowed, and Lily grabbed the cable's end. It pulled her upward, higher and higher, until she landed on a cloud-shaped island.
There she met Boris, a bear with patches of orange fur that glowed like sunset. But Boris wasn't an ordinary bear—he was a zombie bear, magically brought back to life by the island's ancient magic. His eyes twinkled with kindness, not scariness.
"I've waited eighty years for someone to find my golden cable," Boris rumbled softly. "I have a gift for you."
He led Lily to a magnificent orange tree. But these weren't ordinary oranges—they were memory oranges! Each perfect orange sphere held a happy moment from someone's life.
"The zombie curse made me forget all my joy," Boris explained. "But these oranges restored my memories. Now I can finally rest in peace, knowing I've shared happiness with others."
Lily plucked the largest orange. When she peeled it, she saw her fondest memory: the day she adopted Mittens. Tears of joy filled her eyes.
"Thank you," Boris whispered as his glowing orange fur faded to soft brown. His peaceful smile remained as he drifted into a gentle sleep, finally free.
Mittens purred as the golden cable carried them home. That night, Lily dreamed of zombie bears and memory oranges, knowing that friendship and kindness could transform even the scariest things into something beautiful.
And every time she ate an orange after that day, she wondered whose happy memory might be inside.
