The Zombie Bear's Midnight Game

Luna loved her dog, Barnaby, more than anything in the world. Every night, Barnaby would bark at exactly midnight, and Luna would creep to her window to see what he saw. One Tuesday, something magical happened.

A golden glow flickered outside. Luna peeked through the curtains and gasped. A tiny goldfish was swimming through the air! It shimmered like a living star, its scales catching the moonlight.

"Wait for me!" Luna whispered, grabbing Barnaby's leash. The goldfish led them past the old oak tree and into the meadow, where something impossible stood waiting.

It was a bear—or had been, once. Now it walked with stiff, jerky steps, its fur slightly messy, one ear flopped over. It looked like a zombie bear from storybooks! Luna almost turned back until the bear spoke.

"Finally!" The zombie bear cheered, his voice rumbly and kind. "I've been waiting fifty years for someone to play padel with me!"

He held out a dusty wooden padel, and Luna noticed something wonderful—a proper padel court had appeared in the meadow, glowing with fairy light.

"But... you're a zombie," Luna said bravely.

"I'm Teddy!" The bear laughed, spinning around happily. "I was enchanted by a lonely wizard who just wanted a friend. He turned me into a zombie bear so I'd live forever, but everyone ran away before they could know me."

Luna looked at Teddy's sad eyes and knew what she had to do.

"I'll play with you!" She grabbed the padel, and Barnaby barked excitedly, chasing imaginary balls.

They played until dawn, the goldfish referee cheering them on. Luna had never laughed so hard. Teddy told wonderful stories from the olden days, and Luna shared about her adventures at school.

As the sun began to rise, Teddy's fur grew softer and his movements became natural. The enchantment was breaking—friendship was stronger than magic.

"Will you come back?" Teddy asked, hope in his voice.

"Every night," Luna promised. "And I'll bring my friends too. Nobody should have to play alone."

Barnaby licked Teddy's paw, and the goldfish splashed happily in the morning dew. Luna learned that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need someone brave enough to say hello—and that friendship is the most powerful magic of all.
