The Zombie Bear's Magical Game
Lily found the old teddy bear in her grandmother's attic. Its button eye was missing, and its fur was matted. Gran called it her "zombie bear" because it had belonged to Gran's brother, who'd passed it down like a sleepy ghost story.
"He needs magical water from Crystal Creek," Gran whispered. "That's where the magic happens."
Lily packed her backpack. She strapped on her padel racket—Dad had promised to teach her, but today she had a different quest. The bear, whom she named Zed, felt heavy against her chest as she stepped outside.
The path to Crystal Creek wound through whispering trees. Sunlight danced on leaves like scattered diamonds. Lily marched, Zed bouncing with every step.
Suddenly, a real bear emerged from the bushes! Lily froze. But this bear wore a tiny padel racket around its neck like a necklace.
"Hello!" the bear said. "I'm Bruno. Are you here for the water too?"
Lily gasped. "You can talk!"
"Crystal Creek does that," Bruno winked. "Want to play padel while we walk? My friend raccoon is waiting by the stream."
They played padel with pinecones, laughing as Bruno hit them with his nose. Zed seemed to shimmer in the sunlight.
At Crystal Creek, the water sparkled like liquid starlight. Lily dipped Zed in. The bear's fur fluffed up, and a new button eye appeared—bright as a blueberry!
"Thank you!" Zed said, and Lily jumped.
Her bear was ALIVE!
Bruno cheered. "The zombie bear has woken! Now, who's ready for another round of padel?"
Lily hugged Zed tight. Some friendships need a little magic water, a little patience, and maybe a game of padel to come alive. Gran would never believe this zombie bear story—but she'd definitely want to play padel too.
