The Zombie Baseball Friend
Lily loved baseball more than anything. Every Saturday, she practiced in her backyard, swinging her favorite orange bat until the sun went down. But she had no one to play with. All the other kids were busy.
One afternoon, Lily found something strange behind the old oak tree. It was a thick, black cable, glowing with tiny twinkling lights like captured fireflies. When she tugged it, a purple fog floated out, swirling and twirling until it formed a shape.
"Hi!" said the shape, which looked like a green zombie boy with messy blue hair and the friendliest smile Lily had ever seen. "I'm Zed! What's your name?"
"Lily," she whispered, amazed. "But... you're a zombie. Aren't zombies scary?"
Zed laughed. "Not me! I'm a friendly zombie from the Magical Land of Make-Believe. That cable you found is a Wonder Cable! It connects imagination to the real world. I heard you wishing for a friend to play baseball."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "Can you really play?"
"I can do anything!" Zed cheered. "Let's play!"
They played the most magical baseball game ever. When Zed hit the ball, it turned into sparkling butterflies. When Lily threw, the ball made rainbow trails in the air. Zed wasn't scary at all — he was funny and kind, and he cheered every time Lily made a good catch.
"You're the best friend ever!" Lily said.
"And so are you!" Zed replied. "Want to know the best thing about Wonder Cables? They connect hearts too."
As the sun set, Zed faded back into the cable. "I'll come back whenever you play," he promised. "But remember, real friendship isn't about magic tricks. It's about kindness, sharing, and believing in each other."
Lily smiled, hugging the glowing cable. She knew Zed was right — the best magic of all was friendship, whether it came from a Wonder Cable or from being kind to others. And every Saturday, she'd grab her baseball bat, knowing her zombie friend would be there, ready for another magical game.
