The Zombie at the Pool Party

Lily loved summer evenings at the community pool. The water sparkled like diamonds under the fairy lights strung between the trees. Her golden retriever, Buster, splashed happily beside her, chasing the glowing pool toys that bobbed on the water's surface.

But tonight felt different. The air buzzed with magic.

"Buster, look!" Lily whispered, pointing at the shadows near the padel court. A slow figure shuffled toward them—arms stiff, face painted green, clothes tattered.

A zombie!

Buster's tail wagged furiously. The zombie wasn't scary at all. It was her neighbor, Mr. Henderson, dressed for his grandson's birthday party!

"Rowr..." Mr. Henderson playfully groaned. "Did someone say... ice cream?"

Lily giggled. Her iPhone chimed with a magical new app she'd downloaded earlier—Ghost Detector. Suddenly, the screen flashed with rainbow colors. Real ghosts were visiting the pool tonight!

"The pool needs your help," a tiny ghost whispered, floating like a glowing bubble. "A bad spell turned our fun into gloom. Only friendship can break it."

Lily looked at Buster. The dog barked bravely. Mr. Henderson zombie-walked with purpose. Together, they followed the ghosts to the pool's edge, where the water had turned gray and sad.

"We need to make the pool happy again!" Lily declared.

She jumped in, splashing joyfully. Buster dove after her with a mighty splash. Even zombie Mr. Henderson performed a perfect cannonball. The water bubbled and sparkled, turning blue again.

The ghosts danced in delight, turning into beautiful fireflies that lit up the night sky. One by one, they whispered their thanks before fading into the stars.

"Best. Pool party. Ever," Lily said, drying off with her towel.

Buster shook water everywhere, making them all laugh. Even Mr. Henderson zombie-shimmied with happiness.

Lily learned something magical that night: sometimes the scariest-looking things are just friends in disguise, and joy is the strongest magic of all.
