The Zombie and the Orange Moon
In the land of Whispering Woods, where trees told secrets and fireflies danced, lived a zombie named Zeb. But Zeb wasn't scary like the zombies in stories. He was green and gentle, with patches of orange moss growing on his shoulders like little sunshine spots.
Every night, Zeb would sit by the Silver Lake and watch the moon. Most nights it was white, but once a month, it turned a brilliant orange. The old wizard said the orange moon gave magical swimming powers to anyone brave enough to splash in its glow.
Zeb wanted to swim more than anything. But whenever he approached the water, the forest animals would scatter. "A zombie! A zombie!" they'd cry. "He'll turn us into swimming zombies too!"
One orange-moon night, a little girl named Lily followed the glowing path to the lake. She carried a basket of fresh oranges. When she saw Zeb, she didn't run away.
"You're not scary," Lily said, peeling an orange. "You look lonely."
Zeb's eyes widened. No one had ever spoken to him kindly before. "I... I want to swim," he admitted. "But everyone runs away."
Lily smiled and handed him an orange slice. "My grandma says oranges give courage. And my grandpa says zombie just means someone who's walking through a hard time."
Something magical happened. As Zeb ate the orange, his green skin began to sparkle with orange light. The orange moonbeams danced around him.
"Try now!" Lily cheered.
Zeb stepped into the lake. And instead of sinking like a stone, he began to swim beautifully! He did backflips and swirls, creating orange ripples that glowed like tiny stars.
The forest animals crept back, watching in wonder. Soon, they were all splashing and swimming together. The zombie had shown them that courage comes in all colors, even orange.
From that night on, every orange moon, the whole forest gathered for swimming lessons. Zeb became the best teacher, showing everyone that scary stories aren't always true — and that sometimes, the most wonderful friends come in the most unexpected packages.
The moral? Never judge someone by how they look. Sometimes, a zombie just needs a friend and an orange to discover their magic.
