The Wizard's Backward Hat
Lily discovered the purple hat hidden in her grandmother's attic. It had gold stars stitched around the brim and felt warm when she touched it.
"Try it on backward," whispered a voice from the shadows.
Lily spun around. A gentle old bull stood beside her, wearing glasses and holding a watering can. "I'm Barnaby," he said. "The hat shows magic to those who believe."
Curious, Lily placed the hat on her head—backwards, just like Barnaby said. Suddenly, the attic transformed. Dust motes became glowing fairies. Old toys woke up and stretched. Through the window, she saw her grandmother's garden below.
But it wasn't just any garden. The withered plants weren't dead—they were zombie flowers! They swayed sleepily, waiting for something special.
"They're not scary zombies," Barnaby explained. "They're just waiting for moon-vitamins to wake up properly."
"Moon-vitamins?" Lily asked.
"Starlight packed with sleepy-time magic," Barnaby said. "But I'm too old to climb to the roof."
Lily's eyes sparkled. "I can do it!"
With the wizard's hat on backward, she climbed onto the roof. There, caught in the hat's brim, she collected actual moonlight—it sparkled like crushed diamonds. Carefully, she carried it downstairs to Barnaby.
Together, they sprinkled the moon-vitamins over the zombie garden. One by one, the flowers stretched their petals. Roses glowed soft pink. Sunflowers turned golden, even at night. Even the old oak tree stretched its branches and sighed happily.
"Thank you, Lily," Barnaby said. "The magic was always inside you. The hat just helped you see it."
Lily touched the hat's warm fabric. She realized something wonderful: believing in magic was the best vitamin of all.
That night, she slept with the purple hat beside her bed. In her dreams, she and Barnaby danced through gardens that never stopped blooming, under stars that winked just for her.
