The Wish in a Palm

Lily sat by the ocean, her toes buried in warm sand. Her golden retriever, Sunny, watched the waves nervously from a safe distance. He loved many things—chasing balls, belly rubs, and howling at sirens—but swimming terrified him.

"Come on, Sunny!" Lily called, but the dog only whined and backed away.

That's when she noticed something sparkling in the shallow water. A tiny goldfish, unlike any she'd ever seen, shimmered with rainbow scales. It swam right to her palm and spoke in a voice like bubbles.

"I am Finn, the Fish of Wishes. For your kindness to animals, I offer you one wish vitamin—a magical drop that can make anything possible."

The goldfish blew a glowing bubble that landed in Lily's palm. It pulsed with golden light.

Lily knew exactly what to wish for. She carried the magical drop to Sunny and whispered, "I wish you weren't afraid of the water."

The vitamin-like bubble dissolved into Sunny's fur. The dog's eyes widened. He trotted toward the ocean, tail wagging. But as the first wave touched his paws, he froze.

The magic hadn't worked—or had it? Sunny looked at Lily, then at the water, and took a deep breath. He waded deeper. Soon, he was paddling happily, splashing Lily with his newfound joy.

Finn appeared again, jumping from a wave. "The magic vitamin didn't remove fear," he explained. "It gave courage—the bravery to try."

Lily understood then that the real magic hadn't been in the wish at all. It had been in Sunny's heart all along.

From that day on, Sunny became the most enthusiastic swimming dog in town. And sometimes, when Lily visited the beach, she spotted Finn's rainbow scales flashing in the waves—a reminder that the greatest adventures begin with a single brave step, even when your paws are shaking.
