The Wild Hair Magic
Lily had the most extraordinary hair anyone had ever seen. It was red as autumn leaves and so wild it seemed to have a mind of its own, swirling around her head like a fiery halo even on windless days. Her grandmother always said, "Your hair holds magic, little one. One day, you'll discover what."
One sunny morning, Lily's fluffy dog Barnaby bounded into the forest, barking excitedly. "Come back!" Lily called, chasing after him. Barnaby never ran off like this—something must be special.
Deep in the woods, Lily found Barnaby sitting beside a magnificent fox with fur the color of sunset.
"Hello, little one," the fox spoke, and Lily gasped.
"You can talk?"
"All creatures can speak," the fox smiled mysteriously. "But only those with wild magic hair can hear us."
The fox led Lily and Barnaby deeper into the forest to where a giant brown bear sat, head in his giant paws, looking very sad.
"Oh no," said Lily. "What's wrong?"
The bear sighed, and his breath made the leaves dance. "I've lost my sparkle," he rumbled. "Without it, I can't paint the northern lights across the sky each night."
The fox nodded at Lily. "Only someone with magic hair can help."
Lily's hair suddenly began to glow and swirl on its own, lifting toward a distant berry bush. Among the ordinary berries hung a single golden fruit that pulsed with light—a forest vitamin pure as morning sunshine.
"Barnaby, fetch!" Lily pointed.
The dog leaped, caught the glowing berry gently in his mouth, and brought it to the bear.
When the bear ate the magical fruit, his eyes twinkled like stars. He stood and roared joyfully, sending sparkles shooting upward. "Thank you, my friends!"
That night, the northern lights danced more brilliantly than ever before. Lily touched her wild hair and smiled. Her grandmother had been right all along—her hair held magic after all.
