The Water Sphinx's Lost Friend
Leo loved exploring his grandmother's overgrown garden, especially the old stone fountain hidden behind ivy. One rainy afternoon, he noticed something magical – the water in the fountain wasn't just flowing down. It was rising, shaping itself into a tiny sphinx no bigger than his hand.
The sphinx's eyes shimmered like pool ripples. Her voice sounded like streams over smooth stones. 'I am the Water Sphinx,' she said. 'I guard this forgotten fountain. But I am lonely.'
Leo sat cross-legged in the damp grass. 'Why are you lonely?'
The sphinx formed a tear from her water body. 'My best friend, a magical goldfish named Splash, has disappeared. Splash has the most beautiful silver hair that flows like moonlight on the ocean. She could sing songs that made the flowers bloom.' She explained that Splash had vanished three full moons ago.
'I'll help you find her!' Leo offered.
The sphinx gave him a challenge: 'To find Splash, you must follow where water goes – to the birdbath, to the puddles, to the rain barrel.' Leo spent the afternoon searching, splashing through puddles and peeking into every water container he could find.
Finally, behind the garden shed, he discovered an old watering can. Inside, a tiny goldfish swam in circles, her silver hair floating like silk seaweed. 'You found me!' she bubbled joyfully.
Leo carefully carried the watering can back to the fountain. When Splash returned to her home, the Water Sphinx danced with happiness, creating rainbows in her spray.
'Thank you,' the sphinx said. 'You showed that true friends never give up looking for each other.' She pressed a water-drop into Leo's palm – it became a crystal marble that always felt cool, no matter how hot the day.
Leo smiled. He had learned something wonderful: even the smallest creatures could have the biggest friendships, and sometimes the best adventures happen when you help others.
