The Water Bull's Secret

waterbullfriendpadeliphone

Lily pressed her face against the cool glass of her bedroom window, watching the rain dance down the pane. Behind her, on her bed, lay an old iPhone she'd found in the attic. It didn't work anymore—or so she thought until she noticed a strange glow coming from its screen when she touched it.

That's when she met Milo, the small boy who appeared on the screen like magic.

"I'm trapped in the World Behind Water," Milo said, his voice bubbling like a brook. "Will you help me?"

Lily's heart thumped with excitement. She grabbed her favorite things: her lucky padel racket from tennis camp and her imagination.

"I'm coming!" she whispered.

The iPhone's screen rippled like the surface of a lake. Lily reached through—and suddenly she was falling through cool, swirling water, emerging in a meadow where the grass shimmered in colors of blue and silver.

Milo was waiting, but something was wrong. A great water bull stood between them, its translucent body flowing like a river, its horns made of foam and sea-foam. The bull pawed the ground, and waves rippled outward from its hooves.

"The Water Bull guards the friendship bridge," Milo explained. "Only those with kind hearts may pass."

Lily looked at the magnificent creature. Instead of being afraid, she felt wonder. The water bull wasn't mean—it was lonely, she could feel it in her bones.

"Beautiful bull," she said softly, holding out her padel racket not as a weapon, but as an offering. "Would you like to play?"

The bull's eyes widened. It nudged the racket, and suddenly water droplets floated up, forming a ball between them. For hours, they played together—Lily, Milo, and the Water Bull, batting water droplets back and forth, laughter bubbling up like spring water.

When the sun began to set, the Water Bull bowed its great head and touched its horns to Lily's forehead.

"Thank you," it seemed to say without speaking. "You saw me, not a monster. True friendship sees with the heart."

Lily and Milo crossed the friendship bridge, and she woke up in her bed, the old iPhone dark beside her. But in her pocket, she found something new—a small, smooth stone that shimmered with every color of water, reminding her that kindness unlocks doors that fear cannot open.

And sometimes, the most magical friends are the ones we make when we least expect them.
