The Water Bull's Magic Garden
Lily lived in a village where the stream had slowed to a trickle. Every day, she watched the cracked earth grow thirstier.
One afternoon, she followed the drying streambed into the forest. There, beside a spring that still flowed clear, she found a great black bull with gentle eyes. He wasn't scary at all — he was carefully tending a garden of the greenest plants Lily had ever seen.
"Hello," said Lily, amazed. "What are you growing?"
"Spinach," rumbled the bull softly. "Magic spinach. Each leaf can hold enough water to fill a cup."
Lily's eyes widened. The bull showed her how the shiny leaves stored dew like tiny cups, and when squeezed, they released pure, fresh water. He'd been growing them for years, waiting for someone who needed them.
"My village needs your help," Lily said.
The bull smiled — yes, bulls can smile when they're magical — and together they harvested baskets of the special spinach. All the way back to the village, the bull carried the heavy load while Lily skipped beside him, dreaming of green gardens again.
When they arrived, Lily squeezed the spinach leaves into buckets, and water flowed like magic. The villagers cheered! Children danced in the mud, flowers lifted their heads, and even the grumpy old baker smiled.
That night, the bull taught Lily how to plant the magic spinach seeds by water. "The secret," he whispered, "is that kindness grows best when shared."
Lily planted seeds along the streambed. Soon, green shoots sprouted everywhere. Now her village never thirsted, and every child knew to be kind to the gentle bull who tended his magic garden by the spring.
Sometimes, if you're very quiet near water, you can still hear him humming to his spinach, making sure the magic never runs dry.
