The Water Bull's Gift
Lily loved rainy days. When the sky turned dark and thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy, she would press her nose against the window and watch.
One afternoon, a brilliant flash of lightning lit up her backyard. Lily counted the seconds. One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi—BOOM! The thunder shook the house.
But then she saw something amazing. In the pool, where rainwater splashed and danced, a tiny creature appeared. It was no bigger than her hand, shaped like a little bull, but made entirely of swirling water.
The water bull trotted across the pool's surface, leaving ripples that sparkled like diamonds. When another lightning flash cracked across the sky, the bull's watery body glowed blue.
Lily ran outside in her yellow rainboots. "Hello!" she called.
The bull stopped and looked at her with eyes made of light. It dipped its head then tossed sparkling water into the air. Where the drops landed, tiny flowers sprouted instantly—purple, pink, and golden blossoms.
"You're magic!" Lily gasped.
The water bull swam closer to the pool's edge. Lily knelt down and noticed something sad—her bull looked scared. Another lightning bolt flashed, and the creature shivered.
"Don't be afraid," Lily whispered. "I'll protect you."
She grabbed her beach umbrella and held it over the pool, creating a dry space. The water bull nuzzled her hand with its cool, wet nose. In that moment, Lily understood something important: even the smallest creatures need friends, and even she could be brave for someone else.
They played until the storm passed. As the sun peeked through the clouds, the water bull grew smaller and smaller until it became just a sparkle on the water's surface.
But in Lily's backyard, the magic flowers it had created still bloomed, reminding her that friendship and courage can appear in the most unexpected places—even during a storm, even from something made of water and dreams.
