The Water Bull of Paradise Bay
Lily lived where the ocean kissed the sand, her favorite spot beneath the swaying palm trees. Every afternoon, she'd wave goodbye to the tourists and run to her secret cove, where the water sparkled like diamonds in the sun.
One day, something strange caught her eye. Behind the biggest palm tree, a creature poked its head out—not a fish, not a seal, but something magnificent. It had the powerful shoulders of a bull and shimmering scales that shifted from blue to green like the ocean itself.
"I'm Finn," the creature bubbled, his voice sounding like waves splashing on rocks. "I'm a water bull. We live in the deeper waters, but I wanted to see what humans do up here."
Lily's eyes widened. "You're magical!"
"You're brave," Finn replied. "Most humans run away when they see something different."
Every day that summer, Lily would sit beneath her palm tree and Finn would surface to tell her stories—about underwater castles made of coral, about fish that glow like stars, about a whale who sang songs so beautiful they made the tides dance.
In return, Lily showed Finn her world: how to skip stones, how coconuts grew on palm trees, how to make flower crowns.
"Why are you my friend?" Lily asked one day.
Finn's tail splashed thoughtfully. "Because you didn't run away. Because true friends see with their hearts, not just their eyes. Because you believe in magic even when others don't."
On the last day of summer, Finn handed Lily a beautiful shell that shimmered with every color of the sea. "Whenever you miss me, hold this to your ear. I'll hear you, no matter how far away I am."
Lily watched as Finn swam away, diving beneath the waves until only bubbles remained. But she wasn't sad anymore. She had learned something wonderful: the best friends aren't always the ones you expect, and magic is real for those who believe.
Now, whenever Lily visits the shore, she whispers to the water. And sometimes, if she's very lucky, she sees a pair of curious eyes surfacing near her favorite palm tree, and she knows her friend has come to say hello.
