The Vitamin Water Pyramid
Maya's palms were sweating — like, ACTUAL dripping sweat — as she stood outside Jake's house. The party was already thumping inside, and she'd spent the last hour convincing herself she belonged here.
"You got this," Chloe whispered, handing her a Tropical Blast Vitamin Water. "Liquid courage, my friend."
Maya took a sip. "This better work. I'm literally shaking."
"You're shaking because you're low-key obsessed with Jake and everyone knows it," Chloe said, because her best friend had absolutely no filter.
They walked in, and Maya immediately spotted the problem. The social pyramid was alive and well — jocks by the DJ, popular kids claiming the couch, everyone else circling like satellites. And there it was: the towering inflatable bear float in the pool, currently occupied by the mean girl clique.
"No way," Maya groaned. "They took the bear."
"The bear is MINE," Chloe declared, marching toward the pool like she was about to declare war.
Maya followed, already regretting everything. They waded into the water, and suddenly Chloe was splashing Brianna, the queen bee herself.
"EXCUSE ME?" Brianna shrieked, jumping off the bear.
"My friend has been staring at Jake for THREE YEARS and you're literally blocking her shot," Chloe announced. "Move. The. Bear."
The whole pool went silent.
Then Jake swam over, grinning. "Actually, I was hoping Maya would join us."
Maya's palms stopped sweating. The pyramid didn't matter. The bear didn't matter.
"Yeah?" she managed, suddenly feeling light as water.
"Yeah," Jake said, splashing her gently. "Want to share the bear?"
And that was the moment Maya learned something way better than any high school lesson: sometimes you just need a best friend who starts fights for you, a little vitamin water, and the guts to wade into the deep end.
