The Vitamin Bottle's Secret Magic
Lila loved running more than anything in the world. Every morning, she would sprint through her backyard, her braids flying behind her like two happy snakes. But today, Lila stopped running near the old garden shed.
Something was moving behind the rusty boxes!
Lila peeked carefully and gasped. A little creature was shuffling there. It looked green and wobbly, like a zombie from her storybooks! But instead of being scary, this zombie had sparkly purple eyes and wore a tiny yellow raincoat.
"Are you... a zombie?" Lila whispered, her heart thumping.
The creature nodded slowly, then held out something small and orange. It was a vitamin!
"I'm Zing," the zombie said softly. "I'm the Vitamin Keeper. I collect all the forgotten vitamins from children's bottles."
Lila's eyes widened. "My vitamins always disappear!"
Zing smiled, revealing surprisingly straight teeth. "That's because I borrow them. Not all children remember to take their vitamins, so I gather them to make magic dust. It helps children grow strong and brave."
"That's amazing!" Lila clapped her hands. "Can I be your friend?"
Zing's purple eyes twinkled. "I've never had a friend before. Everyone runs away when they see a zombie."
"I love running!" Lila laughed. "But I run toward fun, not away from it."
From that day on, Lila and Zing became the best of friends. Zing showed Lila how vitamin dust could make flowers glow and help birds sing prettier songs. Lila taught Zing about running races and jumping in puddles.
Lila learned something important that summer: sometimes, the scariest-looking things can turn out to be the most wonderful friends. And Zing learned that even a zombie deserves friendship.
Every evening, Lila still takes her vitamin, knowing Zing might be watching, and somewhere, a little bit of magic is being made just for her.
