The Tiny Sphinx's Big Wish
Leo loved visiting his grandmother's backyard. In the corner stood an ancient **palm** tree with rough bark and leaves that danced in the breeze like green ribbons.
One hot afternoon, Leo spotted something glimmering behind the palm. He pushed aside the fronds and gasped. A small **pool** of crystal-clear water sparkled in the sunlight, even though no rain had fallen for days.
And sitting on a rock at the pool's edge was a tiny creature the size of a kitten, with the body of a lion and the face of a wise old man. A miniature **sphinx**!
"Hello," Leo whispered.
The sphinx blinked golden eyes. "I am Rami," he said in a voice like rustling leaves. "I've been waiting so long for someone to find me."
Rami explained that he was the guardian of the Truth Pool. "One sip, and you see what's truly in your heart. But I'm lonely here. Will you visit?"
Leo visited every day that summer. He brought snacks and stories. They played hide-and-seek among the palm roots. Rami taught Leo riddles, and Leo taught Rami how to skip stones across the pool.
"I used to think I needed magic to be happy," Rami said one day. "But friendship is the best magic of all."
When summer ended, Leo had to return home. He kissed Rami's furry forehead. "I'll come back."
"I know," Rami purred. "Because you're my friend now. And friends always find each other again."
Leo waved goodbye to the palm tree, the magical pool, and his tiny sphinx friend. He walked home with a full heart, knowing that sometimes the most wonderful discoveries aren't things at all—they're friendships waiting to be found.
