The Thunder Pool's Magic Feast

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the mysterious pool hidden behind the garden. Grandma called it the Thunder Pool because on stormy nights, the water would glow whenever lightning flashed across the sky.

One rainy afternoon, Lily sat by the pool, eating her least favorite vegetable—spinach—from a blue ceramic bowl. "I wish spinach tasted like chocolate," she sighed, pushing the green leaves around with her spoon.

Suddenly, the sky darkened. A bolt of lightning crackled across the clouds, and the pool began to shimmer with a soft golden light. Lily watched in wonder as ripples spread across the water, even though there was no wind.

"Make a wish, little one," whispered the pool, its voice sounding like gentle rain.

Lily's eyes grew wide. The pool could talk! She thought carefully about her wish, then remembered how her little brother Timmy always complained about eating his vegetables too. And how her friend Emma had been sad lately because her grandmother was sick in the hospital.

"I wish," Lily said bravely, "that whenever children eat healthy foods like spinach, they feel extra brave and strong to help others."

The lightning flashed again, brighter this time. The pool's light grew until it surrounded Lily in a warm glow. When the light faded, the spinach in her bowl had turned into sparkling emerald stars.

Lily tasted one. It still tasted like spinach, but somehow—wonderful! She felt energy surge through her, like she could do anything.

That night, Lily shared her magical spinach with Timmy and Emma. Together, they helped Grandma plant flowers in the rain, and visited Emma's grandmother at the hospital, bringing homemade cards and warm hugs.

Lily learned that magic isn't about changing things into what we want. True magic is finding courage to help others, even when it means doing things we don't always enjoy—like eating spinach.

And sometimes, on stormy nights, if you visit the Thunder Pool with a brave heart, you might still see it glow, waiting for someone kind enough to make a selfless wish.
