The Thunder Game

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's cottage by the forest. Every summer, she'd play padel on the old wooden court behind the house with Grandma's friendly dog, Buster, who would chase every ball and bark with joy.

One afternoon, dark clouds gathered quickly. Thunder rumbled like a giant waking from a long nap. Grandma called Lily inside, but as she turned toward the cottage, she noticed something strange—Buster was standing at the edge of the forest, wagging his tail at something huge and brown.

A bear! Lily had never seen one so close. But instead of running away, the bear sat down and tilted its head, watching Buster bounce around excitedly.

Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky in brilliant purple streaks. The bear flinched and shuffled backward. Buster noticed the big creature was afraid and did something silly—he dropped his favorite tennis ball at the bear's feet.

The bear sniffed the ball, then gently batted it with its massive paw. It rolled toward Lily. She laughed and rolled it back. Soon, they were playing the strangest game ever—Buster and Lily rolling the ball while the bear swatted it back with surprising gentleness.

They played until the storm passed. When the sun peeked through the clouds, the bear stood up, gave a soft grunt that sounded like goodbye, and lumbered back into the forest. Buster barked happily, his tail wagging faster than ever.

Grandma found Lily sitting on the grass, grinning at nothing. 'What happened out here?' she asked.

Lily smiled. 'I learned that even the biggest, scariest things just want to play sometimes. And that friends can come in the most unexpected sizes.'

That night, Lily dreamed of padel games with bears, and woke up wondering who might be waiting at the edge of the forest, ready for another game of ball.
