The Swimming Sphinx's Secret
Lily loved swimming in the old pond behind her grandmother's house. The water shimmered like liquid diamonds, and dragonflies danced above the surface.
One hot afternoon, while swimming deeper than usual, Lily noticed something glowing at the bottom. She dove down and found an iPhone, still somehow working. As she surfaced, dripping wet with long brown hair plastered to her face, she gasped.
A creature sat on the mossy bank—a sphinx! But not like in storybooks. This sphinx wore a bright purple hat with yellow stars and had the fluffiest white hair that floated in the breeze like cotton candy.
"You found my magic mirror," the sphinx purred, her golden eyes twinkling. "I dropped it while swimming yesterday."
Lily's eyes widened. "You go swimming?"
"Of course!" The sphinx adjusted her hat. "I'm swimming champion of the magical realm. But I'm terrible at keeping track of things. That phone shows me pictures of my friends who live far away."
Lily smiled and handed it over. "Here. My name is Lily."
"I'm Cleo," said the sphinx. "For returning my magical mirror, I'll grant you one wish. But choose wisely—the best wishes help others."
Lily thought about her grandmother, whose knees ached when she gardened. "I wish my grandmother could swim without pain."
Celo's fur stood up with sparkles. "Done! But also..." She tapped the iPhone, and suddenly grandmother appeared at the pond's edge, wearing a swimming suit!
"The water has healing magic," Cleo explained. "Come swimming with us!"
All afternoon they swam together—girl, sphinx, and grandmother—while magical fish painted rainbows in the water. Lily learned that kindness always returns to you, often when you least expect it.
And sometimes, the most magical adventures begin with a simple act of returning what's lost.
