The Swimming Sphinx's Secret
Leo loved to spy on magical creatures from behind his bedroom window. Every night, he'd watch fairies dance in the garden and gnomes peek from beneath the old oak tree. But he'd never seen anything like what happened on the stormy Tuesday when lightning flashed across the sky like cracks in a giant's golden mirror.
As the rain poured down, Leo noticed a shimmering blue pool forming in the backyard—one that hadn't been there before. The lightning struck again, and suddenly, a small golden sphinx appeared beside it, her wings sparkling with raindrops. She looked sad.
"I'm Cleo," the sphinx said softly. "I'm supposed to guard the secret swimming pools that appear during lightning storms. But... I don't know how to swim."
Leo's eyes widened. "But sphinxes are supposed to know everything!"
"That's just a story," Cleo sniffled. "Can you help me?"
Leo grabbed his floaties and jumped into the glowing water. "It's easy! I'll teach you!"
Cleo stepped in hesitatively. At first, she splashed and panicked. But Leo showed her how to kick her legs like a frog and blow bubbles like a fish. He held her paws as she gained courage.
"You're doing it!" Leo cheered.
Cleo laughed—a sound like tiny bells. "I'm swimming! I'm really swimming!"
They played until the lightning faded and the magical pool began to disappear.
"Thank you, Leo," Cleo said, hugging him. "You taught me that even sphinxes don't have to know everything—they just need a good friend."
The next morning, Leo found a golden sphinx statue by his bedside, holding a tiny lightning bolt charm. Now whenever lightning storms came, he'd peek outside, knowing his friend was somewhere out there, splashing in her magical swimming pool, no longer afraid.
And Leo learned that the best secrets aren't the ones you spy on—they're the ones you share with friends.
