The Swimming Sphinx
Lily loved spending her summer days at the old quarry lake, where the water shimmered like liquid sapphire. One afternoon, while swimming near the mossy edges, she noticed something extraordinary — a stone creature half-submerged in the water, its lion body resting on the lakebed while a wise human face watched her with amber eyes.
"You're the first human to visit me in one hundred years," the sphinx spoke, its voice like gentle waves. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Magic Waters. But I'm afraid I've lost something very important."
Lily treaded water, her heart racing with excitement. "What did you lose?"
"The Vitamin Star," Cleo explained sadly. "It's a magical golden crystal that keeps this lake enchanted. Without it, the water will lose its sparkle, and all the magical fish who live here will have to find a new home."
"I can help you find it!" Lily volunteered without hesitation.
"But there's a puzzle," the sphinx warned. "The Vitamin Star only reveals itself to someone who answers my riddle while swimming underwater. Are you brave enough?"
Lily nodded vigorously. She took a deep breath and dove into the cool blue depths. Through the rippling water, she heard the sphinx's riddle echo in her mind: *I have no hands, but I can hug you tight. I have no voice, but I can sing you to sleep. What am I?*
As Lily swam deeper, something glowing caught her eye — nestled between two ancient stones was a crystal that pulsed with golden light, warm as sunshine. The answer filled her heart: *A blanket!*
When she surfaced, gasping and grinning, she shouted the answer. Cleo's amber eyes twinkled with delight as the Vitamin Star in Lily's hand blazed brighter, sending rays of golden light dancing across the water's surface.
"You did it!" Cleo cheered, creating a splash with her powerful tail. "Your courage and quick thinking have saved the Magic Waters!"
That day, Lily learned that the best adventures happen when you're brave enough to help others, even when things seem difficult. And every summer after, she returned to swim with her sphinx friend, guardian of the enchanted lake where magic and friendship flowed as freely as the water itself.
