The Swimming Pyramid of Sunset Beach
Emma built the perfect pyramid in the sand. It had smooth sides and a pointy top, just like the ones in her library books. But this pyramid was special—Emma had decorated it with seashells and seaweed.
"You're the finest sandcastle I've ever made," Emma whispered, patting its sandy sides. The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange.
Something magical happened then. The pyramid began to glow with a soft, golden light. Emma rubbed her eyes. Was she dreaming? The sandy pyramid started to wiggle, then shake, and suddenly—it grew tiny legs!
"Hello, Emma!" said the pyramid in a voice like gentle waves. "My name is Piri. Thank you for making me so beautiful."
Emma gasped. "You're alive!"
"I am now," Piri said happily. "Because you believed in me with all your heart. And now, I want to show you something wonderful. Have you ever gone swimming at twilight?"
Emma shook her head. "Mom says I have to wait until morning."
"But twilight is when the ocean reveals its secrets," Piri said, his triangular eyes twinkling. "Come with me. We'll be the best of friends on an amazing adventure."
Emma took Piri's sandy hand, and together they waded into the sparkling water. To Emma's surprise, she could breathe underwater! And Piri could swim perfectly, gliding through the waves like a friendly dolphin.
Below the surface, everything glowed. Fish with lights like tiny stars swam around them. Crabs waved hello. A wise old turtle told them stories about ancient treasures.
"Being underwater is like being inside a dream," Emma said, spinning in the magical water.
"And you made it possible," Piri said. "Friendship is the strongest magic of all. When you care about someone—or something—wonderful things can happen."
They played until the first stars appeared above. Then Piri swam Emma back to shore.
"Will I ever see you again?" Emma asked as she stepped onto the sand.
"Whenever you build a pyramid and believe with all your heart," Piri promised. "Remember, Emma: imagination, kindness, and friendship can turn anything into magic."
That night, Emma fell asleep with sand in her hair and a smile on her face, knowing that her new friend would always be waiting at Sunset Beach, ready for their next swimming adventure together.
