The Swimming Hat's Magic Secret
Lily was afraid of the big swimming pool at summer camp. Her curly brown hair would float in her eyes, making everything look blurry underwater. But Grandma had given her something special before camp started.
"Take your bravery vitamin every morning," Grandma had said, pressing a small orange tablet into Lily's hand. "And wear your lucky swimming hat. It used to belong to me when I was a little girl learning to swim."
The hat was bright yellow with little ducks printed all over it. It felt warm when Lily put it on, like sunshine was woven right into the fabric.
On the third day of camp, Lily stood at the pool's edge. Other kids were already swimming—splashing and laughing. But the water looked so deep, so endless.
She remembered her vitamin that morning. She remembered Grandma's smile. Lily adjusted her yellow hat over her wet hair and took a deep breath.
Something strange happened. As she stepped into the shallow end, tiny bubbles floated up around her legs. They sparkled in the sunlight like tiny stars. The bubbles swirled around her, and suddenly—she could breathe underwater!
Lily looked around in wonder. Fish made of light swam beside her. A small dolphin made of bubbles nudged her hand.
"Thank you for the vitamins!" the bubble dolphin said. "Your hat collects all the bravery you need and shares it with us. We've been waiting for someone brave enough to wear it again."
Lily smiled. She wasn't afraid anymore. She swam all afternoon with her magical bubble friends, practicing her strokes and dives. When it was time to leave, the dolphins promised they'd be back whenever she wore her special hat.
That evening, Lily wrote to Grandma: "Your vitamin and your swimming hat worked! I made friends underwater. And the best part? I learned that bravery isn't something you take. It's something you share."
