The Swimming Cat's Magic Vitamins
Mittens was no ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice and napped in sunbeams, Mittens dreamed of swimming.
Every afternoon, she sat by the pond, watching the fish dart through crystal-clear water. "If only I could swim like them," she sighed, dipping one paw into the cool water.
One day, something sparkly caught her eye. A small bottle filled with rainbow-colored pills sat on a lily pad. The label read: MAGIC SWIMMING VITAMINS — One pill gives you the power to swim like a fish!
Mittens' heart leaped. She carefully swallowed one glowing blue vitamin.
Suddenly, her paws felt lighter! She jumped into the pond and—splash!—she was swimming! Mittens twirled and dove, chasing fish and exploring the underwater world.
But deep in the pond's shadowy corner, something emerged. A green creature with wobbly arms and a friendly smile. It looked like a zombie, but not a scary one.
"Hello," the zombie said softly. "I'm Zara. I've lived here for 100 years."
Mittens wasn't afraid. Zara's eyes were kind, like her owner Mrs. Higgins' eyes. "I'm Mittens! I just learned to swim!"
Zara smiled. "Those magic vitamins were my grandmother's. She made them for lonely creatures who needed friends."
Mittens realized Zara seemed sad. "Are you lonely?"
"Nobody visits because they think I'm scary," Zara admitted.
Mittens thought about how Mrs. Higgins had adopted her even though she was the shyest kitten in the shelter. "My owner says true friends see with their hearts, not their eyes."
Every day that summer, Mittens swam to visit Zara. They played hide-and-seek among the lily pads, and Zara taught Mittens to communicate with fish. When summer ended, Mittens brought Mrs. Higgins to meet her friend.
Mrs. Higgins wasn't scared at all. She saw Zara's gentle spirit and invited her to tea. Now Zara visits every Sunday, and Mittens learned something magical: the best adventures start with an open heart and a brave swim into the unknown.
