The Swimming Bull of Starlight Pond
Barnaby was a golden dog with ears like sunflowers. Luna was a silver cat with eyes like emeralds. They were best friends, even though the old farmers said dogs and cats could never be friends.
Every evening at twilight, Barnaby and Luna would meet at the edge of Starlight Pond. The water was so still you could see the moon's reflection, clear as a mirror.
One magical night, the pond began to glow. Softly at first, like fireflies waking up. Then brighter and brighter until the whole pond sparkled like diamonds.
"What's happening?" whispered Luna, her silver fur standing on end.
Suddenly, the water rippled. From the depths emerged not a fish, but a magnificent bull with horns made of starlight and a coat that shimmered like the galaxy itself.
"I am Orion," the bull said, his voice sounding like gentle waves. "I am the Starlight Bull, and I swim through dreams, carrying wonder to children who have forgotten how to imagine."
Barnaby's tail wagged so hard he nearly tumbled into the water. "Can we come swimming with you?"
Orion smiled, and his starlight horns twinkled. "Only those who believe in magic may ride. Climb upon my back, and hold tight to my silver fur."
The dog and cat scrambled onto Orion's broad back. Then, with a splash that sent stardust flying, they were swimming—not through water, but through clouds and constellations.
They raced comets. They danced with the Man in the Moon. They caught handfuls of stardust and made wishes come true for children all over the world.
"See?" said Orion as they swam. "The world is full of magic, but you must open your heart to see it. Even a dog and cat can be friends. Even a bull can swim among stars. Anything is possible if you believe."
When morning began to paint the sky pink, Orion returned them to Starlight Pond.
"Thank you," said Barnaby, his golden fur now glittering with stardust.
"Will we see you again?" asked Luna.
"Whenever you need magic," Orion promised. "Just look at the stars and remember—" And he dove beneath the water, disappearing in a splash of silver sparkles.
From that day on, Barnaby and Luna knew that friendship was the greatest magic of all. And sometimes, on starry nights, they could still see ripples on Starlight Pond, where a swimming bull carried dreams to anyone who believed.
