The Super Spy Salad
Leo was the best spy in the whole third grade. At least, that's what he told everyone. He wore special sunglasses (from the dollar store) and carried a magnifying glass (from his science kit). But Leo had a secret problem – he wasn't very strong or fast. That made spying hard.
One afternoon, Leo's grandma made him something green and leafy for lunch. Spinach salad! Leo wrinkled his nose. But his grandma smiled and whispered, "This isn't just any salad. Each leaf has a secret vitamin that gives special powers to brave spies."
Leo's eyes widened. He took a tiny bite. Then another. The spinach tasted different than he expected – fresh and magical, like a garden in springtime.
Suddenly, Leo felt stronger! His legs felt bouncy, his eyes sharper. He could see ants marching in a perfect line across the kitchen floor. He could hear his grandma humming from the other room. The vitamin power was REAL!
Leo rushed to his friend Maya's house. She was sitting on her front porch, looking sad. Her favorite kitten, Mittens, was stuck in a tall tree and wouldn't come down.
"I can help!" Leo said. But when he looked up, his stomach felt fluttery. The tree was ENORMOUS.
That's when Leo remembered his spy training. And his spinach power! He grabbed some spinach leaves from Maya's garden (with permission), ate them quickly, and felt the same magical tingling.
Leo climbed the tree like a little monkey, moving faster than ever before. He reached Mittens and gently carried her down. Maya cheered so loudly that neighbors came outside to see what was happening.
"You're a real hero!" Maya said.
Leo smiled, thinking about his grandma's words. The real secret wasn't just the spinach or the vitamin – it was being brave enough to help others, even when things seem scary.
From that day on, Leo still pretended to be a spy. But now he knew the best thing about being a spy wasn't the cool gadgets or sneaking around. It was using your special powers – whether from spinach or just from being kind – to help your friends.
