The Sunberry Dog

runningvitamindog

Lily loved running more than anything. Every morning, she'd race through the meadow behind her house, her bare feet padding against the cool grass. But lately, she'd felt lonely running alone.

One golden afternoon, something tumbled out of the sky—a small dog with fur that shimmered like rainbows. He landed softly and barked three times, each bark a different musical note.

"I'm Buster!" the dog said. Lily gasped. Dogs didn't talk!

Buster explained he was from the Cloud Kingdom, where he gathered something very special. He opened his backpack to show glowing orange berries.

"These are sunberries," Buster said. "They're a magic vitamin from the sun itself. They make plants grow tall and strong!"

Lily's eyes widened. Her grandmother's garden had been wilting for weeks, and nothing helped. "Could they save my grandmother's flowers?"

Buster's tail wagged. "But we must hurry—sunberries only work when planted at sunset!"

So they began running—Lily laughing as Buster bounded beside her, his rainbow fur flashing. They raced past the old oak tree, over the babbling brook, through the field of buttercups.

They reached Grandmother's garden just as the sky turned pink. Lily carefully planted each sunberry while Buster danced around, singing a growing song in his musical bark.

Something magical happened. The sunberries dissolved into golden light that soaked into the earth. Rosebuds uncurled. Sunflowers stretched toward the last rays. Daisies burst open, brighter than ever.

Grandmother came outside and wept happy tears. "The garden is alive again!"

Buster nudged Lily's hand. "I must return to the clouds now. But remember—running together is always better than running alone. And friendship is the best vitamin of all."

Lily hugged him tight. When she opened her arms, Buster had transformed into a patch of sunflowers that bloomed every summer, right where they'd first met.

Now every sunset, Lily runs through the meadow, and she's never alone. The wind carries Buster's musical barks, and somewhere between the clouds and the earth, magic is still running wild.
