The Stream Went Wild
Maya's palm was literally dripping sweat. Which was gross, but also fitting because her entire livestream setup was falling apart.
"You got this," she whispered to herself, staring at the monitor. First real stream. No pressure. Just thirty people waiting in the Discord chat, probably already judging.
The HDMI cable had decided this was the moment to embrace its true identity: completely useless. It dangled from her second monitor like a dead worm.
"Buster, NO!"
Her dog — a golden retriever with zero boundaries and zero chill — chose that exact moment to sprint through her room, bouncing off her gamer chair like it was a personal insult. Buster's tail knocked into her carefully arranged desk setup. The dead worm cable somehow managed to get even more dead.
Maya's hair was a whole different crisis. She'd spent forty minutes trying to look casual-but-effortless, which apparently meant looking like she'd barely survived a wind tunnel. Her curls were doing something weird on the left side.
The stream started in two minutes. The cable was broken. Her hair was broken. Buster was now chewing on her mechanical keyboard.
"I hate everything," she announced to the ceiling.
Then her phone buzzed. Several friends from the Discord server.
"YO you're trending on Twitter"
"We literally said the wrong stream link everywhere by mistake lol"
"Everyone's in the wrong server"
Maya stared at the messages. Then she started laughing. Like, actually laughing. The whole thing was so messed up that it looped back around to being fine.
"Buster, you drama queen," she said, grabbing a treat from her desk drawer. The dog immediately abandoned the keyboard for the snack.
She fixed the cable. She threw her hair up in a messy bun because whatever. And when she finally went live, twenty minutes late, with no makeup and a room that looked like a tornado had hit it, she said:
"So I was gonna do this whole polished stream thing, but honestly? This is more me."
The chat went wild.
Maybe that was the point. Maybe the whole trying-to-perfect thing was overrated anyway.
Her palm wasn't sweating anymore. Small wins.
