The Stormy Game
Lily loved watching storms from her window, but her dog Barnaby always hid under the bed. Today's storm was different – the lightning flashed purple instead of white.
"Come see, Barnaby!" Lily called, but Barnaby just trembled.
Then Lily saw something amazing. A huge bear stood in their yard, holding a glowing padel racket. The bear looked lonely, swinging at falling leaves as if they were balls.
Lily grabbed her own padel racket from the garage and rushed outside, despite the rain. Barnaby, braver than usual, followed at her heels.
"Hello?" Lily called. The bear jumped, nearly dropping the racket. He had kind, sad eyes.
"I'm Bruno," the bear rumbled softly. "I found this magical racket in the forest. It makes lightning when I hit things. I'm scared I'll hurt someone."
Lily's eyes widened. "That's not scary lightning! That's magical lightning! Watch!"
She served a tennis ball toward Bruno. He swung the racket – CRAAACK! Beautiful golden lightning arced across the sky, spelling out a smiley face. Barnaby, who'd been hiding behind Lily's legs, barked happily and chased the sparkles.
"It's beautiful!" Bruno gasped.
"Play with me!" Lily said. "We can make lightning art together!"
For hours they played, bear and girl, while Barnaby ran between them catching falling stars. Their lightning painted butterflies, castles, even a giant dog chasing its tail. The storm clouds actually seemed to be dancing with them.
Finally, the storm passed, leaving behind a rainbow that tasted like strawberries.
"Thank you," Bruno hugged Lily gently. "I thought being different meant being dangerous. But you showed me that special things are meant to be shared."
He gave her a glowing feather from the lightning – it still sparkled. "Come back anytime. We'll paint more storms together."
As Bruno walked back into the forest, Lily held the feather tight. Barnaby, no longer afraid of storms, bounced ahead like lightning couldn't wait to visit their new friend again.
That night, Lily learned something important: what makes you different might just be your magic. And the best way to conquer fear is to turn it into something beautiful with friends.
