The Stormy Day Game

Lily peered into the fish bowl on her dresser. Inside, a tiny goldfish named Finn swam in circles, his orange scales gleaming like little coins.

'I wish you could play with me,' Lily whispered, dipping her finger into the cool water.

That afternoon, dark clouds gathered outside. Flashes of lightning cracked across the sky, making the whole room glow. Lily's baseball glove sat on her bed—she'd been practicing every day for the big game.

Suddenly, a whiskered nose poked through her open door. It was Mittens, the neighbor's cat, with bright yellow eyes that seemed to hold secrets.

'Meow?' Mittens jumped onto the dresser and stared at Finn.

'This is Finn,' Lily said. 'He can't play baseball.'

Then something magical happened. As lightning flashed again, Finn leaped right out of his bowl! But instead of flopping on the desk, he swam through the air as if it were water.

Lily gasped. Finn grew bigger and bigger, until he was the size of a real baseball player, with a jersey made of shimmering orange scales.

'Want to play?' Finn asked, his voice bubbling like a brook.

Mittens purred and bounded outside. Lily grabbed her glove and followed. In the backyard, Finn created a magical baseball diamond. The bases floated on puddles, and the pitching mound was made of clouds.

Mittens could pitch like a pro! The cat threw magical lightning bolts that turned into baseballs mid-air. Finn hit them with his tail—*whoosh, whoosh, whoosh*—sending them soaring into the storm clouds.

Lily caught every one, her glove tingling with electricity.

'Best teammates ever!' Lily cheered as the rain started to fall.

Finn shrank back to his normal size and swam back into his bowl. Mittens curled up on Lily's pillow for a nap. Lily knew her secret game was just beginning—and tomorrow, the stormy sky team would play again.
