The Stormy Baseball Game

Lily held her dad's old iphone in her hands. It didn't work anymore, but she loved pretending it could. "Hello, magical kingdom!" she'd say into the black screen. Today, she brought it to the park where her best friends, Mateo and Zoe, were waiting for their baseball game.

"Ready to play?" Mateo called, holding up his baseball glove. The sun was shining bright as they picked teams. Lily was up to bat first. She closed her eyes, swung with all her might, and—CRACK! The ball went flying over the fence!

Suddenly, dark clouds rolled in fast. Thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy. The sky opened, and water came pouring down. They ran for shelter under the big oak tree. Lightning flashed across the sky—BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

"This storm is scary," whispered Zoe, hugging her knees.

Lily pulled out her dad's old phone. She held it high. "Don't be afraid! My magical phone can call the storm cloud!" She pressed imaginary buttons and spoke loudly: "Hello, Mr. Cloud! Please be gentle. We're just kids who want to finish our game."

For a moment, nothing happened. Then—something amazing! The lightning turned from jagged white bolts into soft purple zigzags that danced in the sky. The rain slowed to tiny sparkles that looked like falling stars. A rainbow stretched across the field, glowing bright.

Mateo gasped. "The storm is... beautiful now!"

They stepped out from under the tree. The grass was covered in tiny puddles that shimmered like mirrors. In each puddle, they could see reflections of the magical lightning above.

"Thank you, Mr. Cloud!" Lily called up to the sky. The purple lightning zigzagged one last time before fading away. The rainbow stayed, arching right over their baseball field.

Mateo laughed. "I guess we can't finish our game, but this is way better."

They spent the afternoon making wishes on rainbow sparkles and dancing in the gentle rain. And every time a storm came after that, Lily would pull out her magical phone and remind her friends: storms aren't always scary—sometimes they're just clouds looking for friends.
