The Storm That Brought Friends
On a farm where the moon seemed to smile down at the fields, there lived a bull named Barnaby. Barnaby was big and strong, but he was also very lonely. All the other animals were afraid of his size, so they stayed away.
One night, as summer rain sprinkled the farm, a tiny orange cat named Mango trotted through the tall grass. Mango wasn't afraid of anything — especially not grumpy bulls. When lightning flashed across the sky like glowing cracks in a giant's porcelain plate, Mango saw Barnaby shivering under a old oak tree.
"You're scared?" Mango asked, curling her tail around her paws. "But you're so big!"
Barnaby sniffled. "Even big hearts get scared. Lightning reminds me of the time I got lost in a storm."
Mango's green eyes softened. She reached into her fur and pulled out something bright and orange — a perfect papaya she'd been saving. "My mama always said sweet things chase away scary thoughts. Want to share?"
Barnaby had never tasted papaya before. When he took a bite, his eyes widened. It tasted like sunshine and friendship all mixed together.
"It's wonderful!" Barnaby said, and for the first time, he smiled.
Mango laughed. "See? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you least expect them."
As another streak of lightning danced across the sky, Barnaby didn't shiver. Instead, he nudged Mango closer with his nose. The little cat and the big bull sat together, sharing papaya slices and watching the storm paint pictures in the clouds.
From that night on, Barnaby was never lonely again. The other animals soon noticed that the big bull had become the farm's gentle protector, and Mango became his shadow. They learned that friendship doesn't care about size — it only matters that you care.
And whenever lightning streaked across the sky, Barnaby and Mango would smile, remembering the sweet storm that brought two unlikely friends together.
