The Storm-Swimming Papaya

Luna loved storms. While other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance.

One afternoon, as orange lightning streaked across the clouds like glowing rivers, Luna spotted something odd in her garden. A single papaya fruit had grown overnight—but it wasn't ordinary. Its skin shimmered with the same golden light as the lightning outside.

Curious, Luna ran outside. Rain plastered her hair to her forehead. The moment her fingers touched the papaya's smooth skin, it split open, revealing seeds that crackled with tiny sparks.

"Eat me," the papaya seemed to whisper. "And learn to swim."

Luna took a bite. Sweet juice filled her mouth, and suddenly—zoom! Her feet lifted off the ground. She was floating, then swimming through the air like it was water. Up she climbed, past the roof, past the trees, right into the storm clouds themselves.

"You're finally here!" a voice said.

Luna spun around. A boy made entirely of lightning grinned at her, his orange eyes bright with loneliness. "I'm Flash," he said. "I've been waiting hundreds of years for someone who could swim up here and visit me."

"You were lonely?" Luna asked.

Flash nodded. "Everyone runs from my storms. But you—you came closer."

Luna's heart swelled. "I'll be your friend. I'll visit every storm."

From that day on, whenever lightning painted the sky orange, Luna would eat a magical papaya and swim through the clouds to visit Flash. And sometimes, just sometimes, she brought other brave children along—because everyone deserves a friend, even if they're made of lightning.
