The Storm's Secret Pool

Lily loved thunderstorms. Every time the sky rumbled, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the show. Tonight was special — a lightning storm danced across the dark sky, each flash painting the backyard in brilliant white.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree, and something magical happened. The ground shimmered like glitter. Lily stepped outside in her yellow rainboots, following the glowing path to a hidden pool she'd never seen before. It sparkled with starlight, even though clouds covered the real stars.

"Who goes there?" rumbled a deep voice.

Lily gasped. A giant bull with golden fur stepped from the trees. But before she could run, a second voice spoke — gentle and wise.

"Don't be afraid, little one."

A bear with fur like autumn leaves emerged beside the bull. Lily had never seen animals like these. They weren't scary at all. Their eyes twinkled like the pool itself.

"We're the storm keepers," the bear explained. "Every lightning bolt fills our pool with magic. It grants wishes, but only to those with brave hearts."

The bull nodded. "You came alone in a storm. That's courage."

Lily thought hard. She could wish for anything — toys, candy, endless summer. But she remembered how scared her little brother Tommy was of storms. How he cried and hid under his bed.

"I wish," Lily said, "that Tommy could see storms as magical, not scary. That he could have friends to protect him, like you two protect each other."

The bull and bear exchanged looks of surprise. Then they smiled.

"You wished for someone else's happiness," the bear said. "That's the bravest wish of all."

They touched the pool together. Lightning flashed overhead as the water swirled with rainbow colors.

"Your wish is granted," the bull said. "And so is ours."

"What was your wish?" Lily asked.

"That we'd find a friend who understands, "the bear replied. "Someone like you."

They hugged her, and Lily felt warm all over, even in the rain. When she returned to her room, Tommy was at the window, smiling as lightning painted the sky.

"It's beautiful, Lily!" he cheered. "Like magic!"

Lily smiled, knowing somewhere in the storm, two special friends were watching over them both.
