The Storm's Secret Gift
Leo loved to sit beneath the old orange tree in his grandmother's garden. Every summer, the tree dropped dozens of sweet oranges, and Leo would catch them in his palm, feeling their bumpy skin against his hand.
One afternoon, dark clouds gathered overhead. The air grew still and heavy. Leo's grandmother called him inside just as the first crack of lightning split the sky. BOOM!
They watched from the window as lightning flashed again and again, streaking across the heavens like bright golden ribbons. Suddenly, a bolt struck the old orange tree!
"The tree!" Leo cried, but his grandmother held him back. "Wait, Leo. The storm must pass."
As soon as the rain stopped, Leo rushed outside. The old orange tree stood tall and strong. But where the lightning had struck, something magical had happened. A single perfect orange now glowed with a soft, pulsing light, like a tiny golden sun.
Leo reached out his palm and gently picked it up. The orange was warm, and it seemed to hum with energy.
That evening, Leo's neighbor Mrs. Chen came by. She looked tired and sad. "My poor cat, Mittens, has been missing all day," she said. "The storm frightened her, and she ran away."
Leo looked at the glowing orange in his palm. He had an idea. He closed his eyes and wished with all his heart to help find Mittens. The orange pulsed brighter!
"Follow me," Leo said. The orange led him through bushes, over fences, until they found a small orange cat shivering beneath a porch. Mittens!
Mrs. Chen cried happy tears. "Thank you, Leo! You have a special gift."
Leo smiled, holding the glowing orange. He realized the lightning hadn't destroyed the tree—it had given it magic. And magic, he discovered, worked best when used with kindness.
From that day on, whenever someone needed help, Leo and his magical orange found a way. The lightning storm had brought something wonderful, and Leo learned that the best gifts are the ones we share with others.
