The Storm's Secret Gift

Maya loved storms. When other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance.

One rainy afternoon, Maya was running through the garden when something magical happened. A bolt of lightning flashed—not in the sky, but near the old swimming pool behind her house. The pool had been empty for years, its blue bottom cracked and dry.

But as Maya approached, she gasped. The pool wasn't empty anymore. It glowed with soft golden light, and ripples moved across its surface even though no wind blew.

"Hello?" Maya called.

A head popped up from the water—a girl with long silver hair that flowed like liquid moonlight. "I've been waiting so long for someone to visit!"

"Who are you?" Maya asked, stepping closer.

"I'm Lumi," the girl said. "I'm a storm sprite. I was trapped here by a grumpy thundercloud who didn't want me making children happy anymore."

Maya's heart pounded. "How can I help?"

"You're not afraid of storms, are you?" Lumi asked. "I can feel it—your bravery is like warm sunshine."

Maya shook her head. "I think storms are beautiful."

Lumi smiled. "Then together, we can set me free! Take my hand."

Maya reached down, and her hand tingled with electricity—not scary, but exciting, like touching a static balloon. Suddenly, they were rising into the sky, riding a real lightning bolt!

"Woah!" Maya laughed as they zoomed through clouds.

"Thank you, Maya!" Lumi called. "For believing in magic even when others don't. Never lose your wonder!"

Lumi sprinkled something into Maya's palm—a tiny lightning bolt that felt warm, like a kitten's nose.

"Keep this," Lumi said. "Whenever you feel scared or lonely, hold it tight, and remember: the bravest thing you can do is be curious."

Maya landed softly in her garden, the storm now just gentle rain. In her room, she placed her lightning gift in a special box. From that day on, whenever storms came, Maya smiled, knowing somewhere above, a silver-haired friend was dancing through the clouds, making magic for all the children who dared to wonder.
