The Storm's Secret Gift
Lila the red fox loved summer evenings. Every night, she would sneak down to Crystal Lake, her orange fur glowing like sunset in the dark. The water was always calm, waiting for her.
Tonight, Lila went swimming earlier than usual. The air felt heavy and strange. As she paddled through the cool water, she noticed a bear cub named Bruno sitting on the shore, looking sad.
"What's wrong?" Lila called, swimming closer.
Bruno's eyes were wide. "My mama said a storm is coming. She told me to stay home, but I wanted to see the lake one more time before the rain."
Just then, the sky turned purple. CRACK! Lightning flashed across the clouds like a giant golden zipper opening up the night. Both animals froze.
"We need to take shelter!" Lila said. But where? The nearest cave was too far.
Bruno pointed to a hollow oak tree. "Over there!"
They huddled together inside the tree as rain poured down. Lightning lit up the sky every few seconds, making everything bright as day. Instead of being scared, Lila thought it was beautiful—like nature's fireworks.
"Look," she whispered. The lightning was illuminating something on the forest floor. Flowers were glowing!
Bruno gasped. "Moon lilies! They only glow during storms. My mama told me stories about them."
When the storm passed, the forest floor sparkled with hundreds of glowing white flowers. It was magical.
"I'm glad I didn't stay home," Bruno smiled. "I never would have seen this."
"Sometimes," Lila said, "things that seem scary can lead to something wonderful."
From that night on, whenever storms came, Lila and Bruno would meet at the hollow oak tree. They learned that courage and friendship could turn any frightening moment into an adventure. And every time lightning flashed, they knew the moon lilies were waking up just for them.
