The Storm's Secret Game

Lily loved her old baseball. It had scuffs and scratches, but to her, it was perfect. Every day after school, she'd practice throwing it against the backyard fence. Thwack! Thwack! The sound made her smile.

One stormy afternoon, Lily noticed something strange. Water puddles in her yard weren't just sitting there—they were glowing! Like a curious spy, she crept closer to investigate. Tiny raindrops sparkled like diamonds, and the puddles rippled with magic.

Suddenly, lightning flashed—not in the sky, but INSIDE the water! Lily gasped as a small creature made entirely of light and raindrops popped up from the puddle.

"Hello!" said the creature, who looked like a tiny baseball player made of water and light. "I'm Splash! Want to play?"

Lily's eyes widened. "But it's raining! And you're... you're made of water!"

"That's what makes me the PERFECT baseball player!" Splash laughed. He tossed her baseball—and it curved through the rain like magic, landing gently in his watery hand.

They played the most amazing game ever. Whenever Lily threw the ball, lightning crackled around it, making it glow. Splash caught every single one, sliding through puddles like he was weightless. Rain didn't fall; it danced around them.

"I wish this could last forever," Lily said.

Splash smiled sadly. "Storms don't stay forever. But friends do."

He pressed his watery hand against hers. A tiny lightning bolt tattoo appeared on her palm—shimmering and magical. "Now you'll always have a piece of the storm's magic. Whenever you play baseball, think of me."

The next morning, the sun shone bright. The puddles were gone. But when Lily picked up her baseball, it sparkled with tiny rainbows inside. And on stormy days? She'd see Splash's face in the rain, winking back at her.

Some friends are made of water and lightning, she learned. The best friends are the ones who make ordinary days magical—even after the storm passes.
