The Storm's Magical Surprise

Lily sat by her bedroom window, watching the rain patter against the glass. Inside her fish bowl, Sunny the goldfish swam in happy circles, his orange scales glowing like tiny stars.

Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky! CRACK! BOOM!

Sunny jumped — well, fish don't really jump, but he swished his tail so fast he did a little flip. Lily laughed.

"Don't worry, Sunny!" she said. "We're safe inside."

But something strange happened. In the corner of her room, the old cable TV wire that Dad had forgotten to remove started to glow. It sparkled with blue light, then — ZAP! — a puff of green smoke appeared.

When the smoke cleared, Lily gasped. Standing there was a little zombie! But he wasn't scary like in movies. He had bright green skin, one blue eye and one yellow eye, and a friendly smile that showed just one tooth.

"Hello!" the zombie said, waving shyly. "I'm Zed!"

Lily's eyes went wide. "You're... a zombie!"

"Yes, but I'm not scary," Zed said. "I live inside old cables! The lightning must have woken me up!" He giggled, spinning around. "I've been sleeping in that wire for years!"

Sunny swam to the edge of his bowl and blew bubbles at Zed. Zed laughed and made a funny face back.

"Wow!" Lily smiled. "I thought zombies were mean."

"That's what everyone thinks," Zed said sadly. "But I just wanted a friend. Can we play?"

For hours, Lily, Sunny, and Zed played games. Zed told funny stories about living inside cables, and Sunny did tricks for them. When the storm passed, Zed started to fade.

"I have to go back now," Zed said. "But thank you, Lily. You didn't judge me by how I look."

"Come back anytime!" Lily hugged him.

As Zed disappeared back into the cable, Lily learned something important: sometimes the scariest-looking things can be the best friends — you just have to give them a chance. And Sunny? He swam extra-fast, knowing he had made two new friends that magical night.
