The Storm's Magical Guest
The summer afternoon was perfect for a baseball game. Emma and her best friend Leo were practicing near the pond, the sun warm on their faces. They were getting ready for the big neighborhood game when the sky turned dark.
Suddenly, lightning flashed across the clouds in bright purple zigzags. CRACK! A bolt struck the old oak tree by the water. But instead of burning, the lightning made the tree glow softly.
"Did you see that?" Leo whispered, eyes wide.
From behind the tree emerged someone—not scary like in movies, but curious and friendly. It was a zombie! But this zombie had twinkling green eyes and moss that looked like a cozy sweater.
The zombie pointed at their baseball equipment and made a sad little grunting sound.
"He wants to play!" Emma realized.
Their new friend, whom they named Zed, had never played before. Emma taught him how to hold the bat, while Leo showed him how to catch. Every time Zed missed the ball, lightning would sparkle in his mossy hair, making them all laugh.
Then Leo had an idea. "My dad has padel rackets in the garage! It's like tennis but easier!"
The three friends played until sunset, Zed's lightning flashes keeping them company. When they stopped for water breaks, Zed would splash happily in the pond, making the water dance.
That night, Emma wrote in her diary: "Sometimes the scariest-looking things can become the best friends. You just have to give them a chance."
And every time lightning storm came after that, Emma and Leo would hurry to the pond, knowing their magical friend would be waiting to play.
