The Storm's Magical Gift
Emma lived on a sunny farm with Barnaby, a bull with a heart as big as his spotted brown body. Barnaby wasn't scary at all — he let Emma pat his nose and feed him apples from her pocket. They were best friends.
One summer evening, dark clouds gathered like fluffy gray pillows. Emma's grandfather said, 'A storm's coming, little one. Stay inside.' Emma watched from her window as rain tapped against the glass like tiny fingers.
Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky — not just once, but three times in a row! It crackled and sparkled like golden ribbons dancing in the dark. But something strange happened. On the third flash, the lightning didn't just fade away. It left behind something glowing near the old oak tree at the edge of the farm.
Emma grabbed her yellow raincoat and boots. Barnaby followed her, mooing softly. Together they crept through the wet grass toward the glowing light.
There, curled up under the oak tree, was a baby bear! But this wasn't an ordinary bear. His fur shimmered with tiny sparkles, as if he'd caught pieces of the lightning in his coat. The little bear looked up with sad eyes.
'He's lost,' Emma whispered. Barnaby nodded his big head gently.
Emma's grandfather had once told her, 'The earth remembers everything. Lightning marks special moments forever.' Emma understood — the lightning hadn't been just a storm. It had been a path, bringing this little bear to them.
'Are you hungry?' Emma asked, offering the bear an apple from her pocket. The bear sniffed, then took it with a tiny paw.
For the next hour, Emma and Barnaby sat with their new friend. The bear's sparkles grew brighter as he ate and felt safe. When the rain stopped, a mother bear appeared at the forest edge. She roared softly, and the baby bear's eyes lit up. He bounded toward her, his fur still twinkling.
The mother bear looked at Emma and Barnaby, then bowed her head — thank you.
As they watched the bears disappear into the forest, Emma patted Barnaby's shoulder. 'Lightning doesn't always break things, Barnaby. Sometimes it brings them together.'
And from that night on, whenever storms came, Emma wasn't afraid. She knew that even in the darkest clouds, magic could happen, and friends could find each other in the most unexpected ways.
