The Storm's Magic Gift
Lily loved stormy days. She would press her nose against the window, watching raindrops race down the glass like tiny silver athletes. Her golden retriever, Barnaby, would curl beside her, his warm fur comforting her as thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy growling.
One evening, the sky turned a strange purple color. Lightning flashed — not the usual jagged bolts, but glowing, swirling ribbons of light that danced across the clouds. Lily opened her window, and something magical happened. A drop of water floated inside, glowing like a tiny pearl.
"Come on, Barnaby!" she whispered.
They followed the floating water drop through the garden, past the old oak tree where the neighborhood kids said a zombie lived. Lily had always been scared of that story, but tonight she felt brave.
Barnaby barked happily as more glowing drops gathered ahead, forming a shimmering pool in a clearing. And there, beside the water, was a figure. But it wasn't a scary zombie at all!
It was a sleepy old gardener, covered in vines and leaves, snoring peacefully on a bench. The so-called "zombie" was just Mr. Abernathy, the kindest man in town, who'd fallen asleep while tending his moonflowers!
The lightning danced above, and the water droplets suddenly burst into beautiful butterflies that filled the clearing with rainbow light. Mr. Abernathy woke with a start.
"Well, I'll be," he said, smiling. "The storm magic chose you to see something special."
Lily learned that night that scary stories aren't always true, and sometimes the most wonderful magic happens when you're brave enough to explore. Barnaby wagged his tail as if to say, "See? Adventures are better than being scared."
From then on, Lily welcomed every storm, knowing they might bring magic, friendship, and wonderful surprises.
